Imam Khomeini; Brought People Closer to Politics

Each year the month of Khordad (June) brings the memories a person who has had a great role in the thinking apolitical life of Iranians. For sure we could name him “Teacher” of fiqh, politics and mystics. Imam was successful to bring a new horizon by innovation and creativity in the fields of “Thoughts” and “Politics”.

One of the boldest lessons of Imam was his great development in understanding fiqh and jurisprudence. He has clearly said: “The Ijtihad that is in the Hawza’s isn’t enough.” In Imam’s view the Shia’s Ijtihad could live dynamically considering “time” and “place”.

We should not doubt that the stability of the Islamic Republic, the valuable heritage of the late Imam, will only be guaranteed under an Ijtihad based on “time” and “place”. Also Imam Khomeini used “benefits” in political fish of Shia and he considered the benefits of the society greater than any other benefits.

Another of his great lessons is his unique view towards the political doctrine of Shia philosophy. Imam by issuing “Velayat Faqih” showed the path of Shias in the time of Imam Mahdi’s absent.

The “Velayat Faqih Theory” was the only path that could bring the people closer to the government and the Imam was quite successful in this issue. But he never forgot “Acceptability” of the Islamic governor beside his “Legitimacy”. In his point of view an Islamic governor should have both of them.

In the field of politics, the Imam showed us that political pluralism of the revolutionary groups is a basic strategy for the future of our country.

Imam’s character also taught us different things. One his most important characteristics was his spiritual dimension. A dimension that had impact on his policies and fish. But his mystic wasn’t about sitting aside.

Imam was against hypocrisy and asceticism; he’s heart pained because of the actress scholars and the unreasonable preachers; Imam had nothing to do with the dogmas.

“Imam Khomeini was a person for all ages, and he was an intellectual religious and political man who was aware of time and place.”
